Many users on [[w:en:Wikipedia:Changing username]] are requesting names that have already been created. In several cases, this seems to be because they are searching [[Special:Listusers]] for their desired new name in lower case (e.g. "user 1" instead of "User 1"). However, since all user names begin with a capital letter (even, it would appear, on mixed-case projects such as Wiktionary), a lower case search for "user 1" will return zero results, even if the name "User 1" exists. Could [[Special:Listusers]] automatically convert any search term from lowercase-initial to uppercase-initial before searching?
Should now be fixed in SVN HEAD.
Thanks for the quick response - however, [[User:Essjay]] has just pointed me to [[m:Stewards#Using the steward version of Special:Makesysop]], which seems to suggest that lower case user names may validly exist on some wikis. See also [[Wikipedia talk:Changing username]].
Is this life? See http://fr.wiktionary.org/w/index.php?title=Special%3AListusers&group=&username=Moyogo http://fr.wiktionary.org/w/index.php?title=Special%3AListusers&group=&username=moyogo Both accounts exist already because of historical reasons. best regards reinhardt [[user:gangleri]]
Lowercase usernames are never valid on any MediaWiki wiki. Some older versions had a bug allowing the invalid names.
