In the Hebrew projects and the Yiddish Wikipedia, there is an expanded edit toolbar with some more functions. Why not adding it to MediaWiki?
I will create a patch soon.
Created attachment 1493 [details] Patch This patch adds all the code creates the buttons, and translations of the tip and sample in English and Hebrew, but you also should upload the following files to skins/commons/images - download from URL, upload with the name after it: * http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/meta/c/c9/Button_strike.png button_strike.png * http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/he/5/5f/Button_center.png button_center.png * http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/he/6/60/Button_insert_table.png button_table.png * http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/he/1/13/Button_enter.png button_enter.png * http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/he/8/80/Button_upper_letter.png button_sup.png * http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/he/7/70/Button_lower_letter.png button_sub.png * http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/he/5/58/Button_small.png button_small.png * http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/he/3/34/Button_hide_comment.png button_comment.png * http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/he/1/12/Button_gallery.png button_gallery.png * http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/he/e/e9/Button_headline2.png button_headline2.png * http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/he/8/8e/Button_shifting.png button_shifting.png * http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/he/f/fd/Button_blockquote.png button_blockquote.png * http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/he/1/1e/Button_font_color.png button_color.png * http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/he/2/23/Button_code.png button_code.png * http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/he/9/93/Button_sub_link.png button_sublink.png * http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/he/d/d3/Button_definition_list.png button_deflist.png
Are those images released under the GNU General Public Licence?
(In reply to comment #3) > Are those images released under the GNU General Public Licence? I think they are, but I would check it.
(In reply to comment #3) > Are those images released under the GNU General Public Licence? I've checked, and each of them is under the GNU FDL, except "Button_strike.png" which is not specified; however, you can use the similar image http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/he/c/c9/Button_strike.png instead, which is GFDL.
The GFDL is not compatible with the GPL.
It would be nice, if a user could decide and set by preferences if he want to see the "normal" edit toolbar or this extended one. Preferences -> Editing -> ... [...] [x] Show edit toolbar (JavaScript) [x] Show extended edit toolbar (JavaScript) [...]
(In reply to comment #7) > It would be nice, if a user could decide and set by preferences if he want to > see the "normal" edit toolbar or this extended one. > I respectfully disagree. Having too many preferences is too confusing.
I think the new usability initiative toolbar will replace the old one and thus we can close this bug.
