Description Platonides 2006-03-31 16:08:51 UTC
Please change at eswiki image links when no image is present to point to the
image page instead of the special upload.

So, [[Image:Foo.jpg]] would point to http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Imagen:Foo.jpg
not to
http://es.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Especial:Upload&wpDestFile=Foo.jpg nor
http://es.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Imagen:Inexistente&action=edit

(imagen is the image namespace and Especial the special one)

At the village pump:

It wouldn't make any sense to do this.
Comment 2 Platonides 2006-03-31 21:35:58 UTC
Well, i agree it wouldn't be worth to do it if it were a difficult change but it
seems easy.

The sense. When you're browsing the page and found an image-broken link, and you
click on it you're sent to the upload page, thus trying to make you upload it.
However, nowadays that's not so important as images are better uploaded to
commons. When i try to found the images intended to be there i manually change
the url to the /wiki/Image:Foo.jpg where i have set several links: to the real
upload page, to upload the same file to commons, to the delete log on ws wiki
and the deletion log on commons. You can also form one click call the checkusage
of duesentrieb.

If you think it's not util... i don't agree. It's esasier for fixing images,
it's not more difficult for those who really want to upload it at the local wiki
(1 step more), having at the same price the commons option. For newbies they
have an easy link to go seeing why it was deleted (if was). I have seen people
reuploading a file where the deletin onfo clearly estated the reason. Another
warn about image uploading may be added if the direct link is implemented.

I have posted the proposal at the village pump for half a month and nobody
showed agains it. Well, i know i0m the author but... i see it like a very good
one. Don't find the conns.

There would be no reason to make this different for one wiki than for all the others.
The feature was added for a reason (making it easier and more consistent to upload),
and will stay without some good reason.
Comment 4 Platonides 2006-04-01 10:05:58 UTC
Following that reasoning, you could then change all the wikis to make them equal :P

The change it's a bit like the Community Portal, set before the VillagePump,
where you have more options. Experienced users from ANY wiki (even non
spanish-speakers) shouldn't have any problem finding the upload page. Plus, you
still have the Upload file link on the toolbox.

The feature was added to make easier uploading files to the wiki (right?) but
now it's better to upload them on commons so such fast to upload is not so
needed (specially if you take into account that most images uploaded will need
to be deleted...). What i'm trying to do is similar to a image portal, trying to
group the different things you may want to do about that image: uploading it,
look for it, see why it was deleted...
