Currently, navigating through history of user contributions or a page, there are "Earliest" and "Latest" links. To get to the earliest links manually, you go to "Next 50". To get to the later contributions, you click "Previous 50". Next should be renamed Earlier, and Previous should be renamed Later.
See [[MediaWiki:Prevn]] and [[MediaWiki:Nextn]] for this issue.
You should contact the sysops on your wiki. They will change the messages if they consider this a good idea; see [[Wikipedia:Village_pump]]
Oh! I am one. I'll ask on the pump.
This is not fixable by just editing the Mediawiki message. The message is intended for translation purposes, and so it changes every instance of "next/previous" to "earlier/later", including the ones that *should be* "next/previous". So this is a real bug. The messages for chronological listings (the ones that have "(Latest | Earliest)") need to be given their own Mediawiki message so they can be changed to say "(Latest | Earliest) View (later 50) (earlier 50)" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Village_pump_%28technical%29/Archive#Changing_next.2Fprevious_to_earlier.2Flater
I agree that this needs to be fixed.
Resolving as duplicate of 4777, because fixing it will fix this too. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 4777 ***
