The User: namespace has become a massive drain on the Wikipedia project's volunteer effort, and has server costs associated with it as well. Would it be possible to do any of the following: * remove user pages from the system while retaining user talk pages * limit their contents to a reasonable amount of unparsed text only, perhaps 512 characters * eliminate their use of transclusion and categories
Is there a community supporting this request on your wiki? I think thousands of wiki users do not want their user pages to be removed, especially Wikipedia users! Also user categories are pretty common and accepted on many wikis; thus I mark this bug as INVALID. BTW: When there are no user pages, they use the top of the talk page for that purpose, I would say.
Yessssss, let'sssssss purge them all! PURGE THEM ALL! MUWAHAHAHAHAHAH!
This is a community policy issue. Self-policing of user pages is part of what keeps the community together. If they're out of control, a size limit here likely won't help much.
