You know how adding "|XXXpx" to the wikicode of an image allows you to specify how big the image is in a page, and how "height is computed to keep aspect ratio", according to [[m:Help:Images and other uploaded files]]. Well, I came across a page on the English Wikipedia, <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_flags>, where someone was wanting to actually change the aspect ratio of inline renderings of several images, by typing "|XXXxYYYpx", presumably where XXX was the desired width of the image and YYY was its desired height, probably not knowing that such a thing isn't possible in MediaWiki. So why not make it possible?
Resolving as INVALID, bug report seems to be misinterpretation of the existing feature. XXXxYYYpx sizes the image so that its width is no greater than XXX and its height is no greater than YYY. This is used to size images of any aspect ratio to fit within a given box size.
So then how come this existing feature is not mentioned on [[m:Help:Images and other uploaded files]]? Did someone forget to put it in?
Probably. Note that MediaWiki has no official end-user documentation at this time; what you're referring to is just some wiki page that some people threw together over time. It may be incomplete, inaccurate, etc.
