There was a Parsoid bug to this effect earlier, maybe it came back?
Gabriel - As far as I can tell, this bug is coming from Parsoid rather than VisualEditor - can you confirm? I can replicate in VE and Parsoid master locally.
Can you provide us with a test case and verify that the DOM change looks sane?
To me it looks like the VE is dropping a link (with template encapsulation info) near '165 Pakistan tanks' when editing http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Indo-Pakistani_War_of_1965&oldid=551447483. So it looks like a VE bug to me. Can you verify?

Can you verify? That bug is fixed in the most recent VE release, which is live on mw.org but hasn't hit enwiki yet. On review, this is already fixed in master and will be deployed (as part of wmf4) to the English Wikipedia on 20 May.
