Setting  $wgGroupPermissions['*']['read'] = true
redirects un-logged users to the registration page.

Using IE 6, the browser reports a syntax error, although the page seems to
display fine.

The error reported is:

Using Firefox 1.5, it will also display errors in the Javascript Console:
