Description Jens Ropers 2004-09-12 22:26:27 UTC
Not sure if this is a duplicate of Bug 376:

Redirects currently don't lead the user to the precise anchor specified -- it's best to explain this with an example:

* In the en WP, there currently is a redirect [[CAIB]].
* This redirect is currently set up to lead to [[Space_Shuttle_Columbia_disaster#The_Columbia_Accident_Investigation_Board]] -- in
other words, it should lead to the actual anchor "#The_Columbia_Accident_Investigation_Board" on the
[[Space_Shuttle_Columbia_disaster]] page. It should directly lead to this URL: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/
Space_Shuttle_Columbia_disaster#The_Columbia_Accident_Investigation_Board
* This doesn't however work -- When [[CAIB]] is accessed, the user is only led to this URL: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CAIB (i.e.
minus the anchor).
* If however, the link [[Space_Shuttle_Columbia_disaster#The_Columbia_Accident_Investigation_Board]] is embedded in the text of an
article somewhere, it works correctly -- to the anchor part only fails when the thing is actually used as a redirect.

I hope this conveys good enough what I mean.

NB: Yes, I know it could be argued that that's "a feature" because it forces people to create more smaller, seperate articles. However I
don't think this "feature" should exist. Best practices should be encouraged in another way and this bug should be fixed IMHO.
