This is a feature request to essentially put every article in a category to the
user's watch list. 

It is a common practice to watch similar articles anyway, this feature should be
able to put articles on a user watch list when they get listed in a category
that was selected by the user.

Use the whatslinkhere tool on the category page.

I was talking about the user watch list. You are describing a similar workaround
that does not meet the level of usability.
