Lately, every time I have received new messages on my talk page on the English Wikipedia, my user page (and also my user talk page), have been added to my watch list without my permission. I don't have "automatically add edited pages to my watch list" checked in my preferences, and no other page I edit ever gets automatically added to my watch list. Is this a new feature I don't know about or a bug?
Confirmed that this occurs using a fresh new user on En. No edits to the talk or user pages; one edit to the talk page by another user produced the "you have new messages"; user page was added to watchlist where it was previously blank.
This is required for email notification to work (feature not enabled yet), but seems like a handy thing anyway so I've left it turned on even what that's not enabled. Not a bug.
A "pug".
The adding of User_talk page to the watchlist is indeed intended. Any user has an additional setting in Special:preferences to enable or disable e-mail notification for changes on their user_talk page - if this feature is globally turned on by wikisysops through switch $wgEnotifUserTalk (see DefaultSettings / LocalSettings ).
