This bug also appears in http://ar.wikipedia.org which makes refering arabic articles to wikipedia very unfriendly. Hyperlinks in the arabic version appear very long and cannot be understood (probably they are based on the arabic title of the article). An article link should use only latin characters or should use an article number.
Not possible with the current article title conventions, which allow UTF8 characters, which need to be escaped. Adding direct links to individual articles by page_id would require another hit on the database for each link. You can use TinyURL (http://www.tinyurl.com) to make URLs shorter. Resolving WONTFIX.
Do you know any hack to overcome this? Other than using TinyURL. Can we expect this to be fixed in future versions?
As software supporting IRIs become more common, you'll see the legible Arabic text more often instead of the long string of escape codes. http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc3987.txt
Hallo Achmed! some methods to shorten your url's 1) see bug 3957: restructure the code to evaluate ?title=foo&oldid=nnnn ; allow ?oldid=nnnn without title 2) use generec namespaces instead of local ones; see 3) 3) use redirects as [[ar:project:Administrators]] best regards reinhardt [[user:gangleri]]
