Description lɛʁi לערי ריינהארט 2005-12-06 13:49:57 UTC
Hallo!

It would be probably a good idea to add a CONFIRMED resolution to MediaZilla.
The bug would still be open and show in relevant searches.

best regards reinhardt [[user:gangleri]]
Comment 1 Rob Church 2005-12-06 13:54:08 UTC
Confirmed bugs aren't resolved bugs.
Comment 2 lɛʁi לערי ריינהארט 2005-12-06 13:59:12 UTC
No they aren't. But I thing it would be better to have an idea if another person
was able to reproduce the bug then having no feedback at all.
Comment 3 Rob Church 2005-12-06 16:30:28 UTC
No, because a resolved bug would then appear greyed out and few people would
bother to look at it, ergo it wouldn't get solved. Other people can post
comments to confirm bugs; bugs which can't be confirmed tend to be resolved
WORKSFORME.
Comment 4 Brion Vibber 2005-12-06 23:46:27 UTC
Reinhardt, are you thinking of enabling the UNCONFIRMED option by default to distinguish from NEW?

Yes! A sample search link is
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/query.cgi?product=Bugzilla&bug_status=UNCONFIRMED%2CNEW&chfield=%5BBug%20creation%5D&chfieldfrom=0d&remaction=&query_format=advanced

> Yes! A sample search link is...

This comes up with an "Advanced Search" form where the only options selected
are "Product: Bugzilla" and "where one or more of the following changed: [Bug
creation]". "Status: UNCONFIRMED" is on the form but not selected.
Comment 7 Brian Jason Drake 2005-12-21 02:19:43 UTC
The real issue seems to be about the UNCONFIRMED option; updated summary
accordingly.
Comment 8 William Bumgarner (en:Zsinj) 2006-04-20 22:54:22 UTC
Bugzilla works in such a way that bugs have to have a minimum number of votes to
be promoted from UNCONFIRMED to NEW. /If/ this is still an issue, then in the
editproducts.cgi page the "Number of votes a bug in this product needs to
automatically get out of the UNCONFIRMED state" values needs to be set higher.
That should fix this.

This process is outlined at:
http://www.bugzilla.org/docs/tip/html/faq.html#faq-admin-enable-unconfirmed
Comment 9 Chad H. 2009-08-11 14:10:01 UTC
As an update to this:

This is not possible right now per: https://wiki.mozilla.org/Bugzilla:FAQ:Administrative_Questions#How_do_I_make_it_so_that_bugs_can_have_an_UNCONFIRMED_status.3F as the UNCONFIRMED status is currently tied to the votes system. We don't use votes here for anything useful, so I don't think we should enable the voting just to get UNCONFIRMED available to us.

There's an open bug at https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=162060 requesting UNCONFIRMED to be decoupled from the voting system. Marking this as LATER and adding +upstream keyword, as there's nothing we can do here right now.

IRC cabal doesn't see the point.
Comment 12 MZMcBride 2014-02-02 06:40:19 UTC
We now have UNCONFIRMED and bug reports from untrusted bug reporters (e.g., newly registered accounts) default to this status, as I understand it.
