It would be nice to provide a way for user's to quickly return to the home screen of the app rather than having to hit 'back' a bagillion times.

Agreed.
Places I noticed this:
From map - I wanted to switch to my uploads
Browse by campaign - on the monuments list or actually on the monument page itself
on an incompleted upload monument screen (back takes you to incomplete uploads list then to complete uploads list then to home)

My suggestion is:
* Add settings button to homepage
* Replace existing settings button with home icon
* add home icon to search campaigns page

Note: I think it's acceptable __not__ to have a home icon on the monument and add a photo screen
