Description Christopher Beland 2005-10-18 03:37:19 UTC
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Soccerball.png is currently an image on
commons which has been deleted, but which still has a description page. The
HTTP response for this URL gives status code 404, but it shouldn't. The 404 is
followed by the usual image description page in the body of the response. This
means that the page looks normal from most graphical web browsers (e.g. Galeon
and Firefox), but text clients (like lynx and wget) can't access the HTML. It
also prevents Galeon's "Save As" feature from working properly, since this tries
to re-fetch and aborts when it sees the 404.

Please report the 404-handling bugs to the Lynx and Galeon maintainers.

Note that this image does not have a description page on en.wikipedia.org; hence the
commons image is displayed. Nor is the image "deleted" on commons; someone uploaded an
"X" image over it.

I believe he is reporting the same bug as listed in Bugzilla:3730, I have this
same problem with the get feature in PERL. For normal articles, not just images,
any article that does not already exist while using GET &action=edit, but POST
works fine.
