As discussed on the Wikimania and on the project website on Meta Wikipedia,
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Semantic_MediaWiki , we suggest the extension of
links in wikitax from [[link target|alternative text]] to [[link type::link
target|alternative text]].

In the Sourceforge-project http://sourceforge.net/projects/semediawiki you may
see the current state of the code. This bugzilla bug entry is to collect votes
for this project, and to keep it on the radar of the developers :)

This bug is rather ancient, and things have changed.  SMW is a full-fledged, functioning extension now, and this feature is unlikely to be incorporated into MediaWiki proper.  Recategorizing to extension requests and marking FIXED.
