With screens like that of the New iPad entering main stream, our traditional png formatted interface elements no longer suffice. The pngs are 72dpi and the screens can be up to 250dpi. The external link icon, expand/collapse arrows in the Vector sidebar, icons in the edit toolbar and the MediaWiki/Wikipedia logo, basically all bitmap based images in MediaWiki, are affected. The visual experience on suffers noticeably. Another area where I noticed it, but also visible when using enlarged characters, is in unnumbered lists. No idea how exactly this works, but the bullet seems to be an image, and not a character. Last but not least, the preview/thumbnailing is of course okay when using a 72 dpi screen, but that becomes a vague experience on a 250 dpi iPad screen.
