Description Ian Tresman 2005-09-06 21:24:50 UTC
Isn't it possible to have a simple page view counter on each page, with the
count stored either (a) in the main database (b) as part of a page's HTML
(perhaps in a meta tag)?

This is much simpler than a full statistics system, though monthly (or even
weekly) counts could be stored regularly with little overhead over a ten year
period.

this is already part of the software, unless you're using squid. it can't be
done with squid because squid doesn't record its accesses in the database (or
talk to the database or backend at all).

>this is already part of the software

So how comes Wikiepedia doesn't show page counts? Have they deliberately
disabled this feature?
Comment 3 River Tarnell 2005-09-06 21:56:37 UTC
because we use squid.
