currently gives a 600x1029px thumb of paper page 194 of the book.
This is the old thumb before reuploading; https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/thumb.php?f=Delle_strade_ferrate_e_della_loro_futura_influenza_in_Europa.djvu&w=600&p=206 produces the right one (p. 192) at 600x1016px (which is the right ratio at the current resolution, while I don't know where the other ratio comes from).
Other sizes work, purging repeatedly didn't help.
The right thumb can be called on the wiki specifying the height, but this doesn't always help.

To clarify I meant that https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/3/3b/Delle_strade_ferrate_e_della_loro_futura_influenza_in_Europa.djvu/page206-600px-Delle_strade_ferrate_e_della_loro_futura_influenza_in_Europa.djvu.jpg gives the correct 600x1016 thumb for me (Also not in europe).

It's still a 600x1029px image of p. for me:

I can confirm that if I put
      91.198.174.234 upload.wikimedia.org
in my /etc/hosts file, I get the wrong thumb.

So... another instance of HTCP not fully working?

Actually, if this was some intermittent issue, I would expect the ?action=purge on the image description page would re-send squid purge's for all the thumbs, and fix the issue...
