When using Classic Wikipedia on a smartphone (Nokia N96), the "search" field of any screen is black highlighted when the cursor (focus) is on it. So, it is impossible to see which characters are inserted and where the cursor is. The field is readable only when the cursor is out. It would be nice to have grey or coloured characters in this field, the best should be to suppress the black highligt which appears only on mobile smartphones.
What's "Classic Wikipedia"?
'Classic Wikipedia' means REGULAR Wikipedia in opposition to the MOBILE Wikipedia. Sorry for the wrong translation, in French it is called 'Wikipedia Classique'. About this bug 30338, just try to type some text in the search field of any page of the Regular Wikipedia version, using a smartphone (Nokia N96), you will see this field become all black.
Will this be an issue now that we've moved to the API method of grabbing pages?
This bug has not been touched in at least six months. With this in mind, I've been asked by the bugmeister to bump this bug's priority down for "High". Concerns should be addressed to mah@everybody.org.
transac533: Is this still an issue (see comment 3)? Cannot test with my mobile phones as they either use the mobile version, or with my Nokia N900 going to en.wikipedia.org this problem does not happen (but that's not a Symbian phone like the N96, obviously).
Private email answer that I received: "" I think this bug 30338 should be now ignored and discarded because the context changed since august 2011 when I reported it. 1) Now, mobile version is working fine and desktop version is not anymore avaliable on Symbian phones. 2) Sometimes desktop version is displayed from Google search, and in this case I write in the black hilighted field without predictive T9 then I exit from the field to verify what was written, or I write into Notes, then Copy and Paste into the search field. 3) Symbian does not recognize well some display functions, and it should be nowadays a lost of time trying to solve this little problem only for Symbian. Thank you very much for your tests which clearly show that this problem will not often occur anymore ""
