I don't know what language it is, but it's definitely not English, so I can't use it.

This bug refers to the new wiki at www.mediawiki.org

did you change your prefs without selecting a language?  the first time 
you do that, the language will be changed to afrikaans (known bug).  try 
changing it back...

I guess that was it because the language was Afrikaans.

This bug should be marked as a duplicate, but I don't know the number of the other bug report 
(I did search before entering this one).

I am not sure, whether these bugs are related to 
http://bugzilla.wikipedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3426 ([Bug 3426] New: Variable
wgContLang is null in ObjectCache.php and Title.php)

.. but it could be.
