Description Purodha Blissenbach 2011-04-21 10:39:44 UTC
The 2011 survey at
http://survey.wikimedia.org/index.php?sid=52769&lang=de
shows a selector saying "Deutsch (Sie-Form)" (i.e. German (formal addressing)"
(you can select it, if it is not set so automatically)
but in fact it addresses users using the most respectless forms available.
It should use "Sie" (you, Sir/Madam) to address readers.
Even if it was not, it would have to use "Du" in writing (you as used towards
close relatives, close peers with whom you have a personal relationship,
or minors. The use towards peasants is today already close to dieing out, most broadly replaced by a respectful "Sie")

Actually "du" is being used, which is both a form regarded as offensive (be it a
conscious choice or owed to stupidity or lack of education) by anyone of the age
of, say 40 or more, and a failed attempt of a useless orthography reform authored by few unworldy academics, who pledged to allow "du" in addition to "Du", but got only marginal groups of youth to adopt it.

So, either fix it to "Sie", or fix it to "Du" and remove the nonexisting choice of "Deutsch (Sie-Form)" (I know, it's fallback is "Deutsch" which is inherently using "Du", but I am afaraid, that is too technical for the average reader) or accept to appear offensive to a majority German readers.

Finnish translation also has gross mistakes, like referring chapters as a company.

Sorry to hijack this bug a little, but here's few localisation issues mainly that I don't forget them:
American-centric (I don't know whether translators were guided on these or not):
* Mobile devices don't list Symbian
* In the question about highest education level doesn't have options for vocational schools.

lowering priority since the survey is over, but keeping it in mind for future translation projects.

I don't see anything relevant for bugzilla here, did I misunderstand something? There was some confusion with feedback pages, but I added a link from [[:m:Research_talk:Wikipedia_Editors_Survey_2011/Translation#Other_comments_about_de.2C_fi_translations]] and [[:m:Research:Wikipedia Editors Survey November 2011]] can be used for comments about the new survey.
Closing.

Where is there a bugzilla component for user survey if it is not used?
Comment 8 Nemo 2011-10-21 07:28:18 UTC
(In reply to comment #7)
> Where is there a bugzilla component for user survey if it is not used?

It's used for the technical side of surveys (which makes sense). Unless this bug requires an update of LimeSurvey or similar things, it's useless and counterproductive here.
