Description Gregor Hagedorn 2011-03-16 10:45:50 UTC
Situation: Special:Myuploads, which is redirected to Special:ListFiles/TheUsername, lists a in a technical tabular style the recent file uploads. It is not embeddable (no inclusion in another page), but this is not desirable for the technical style anyways.

However, Special:NewFiles a) displays in a gallery style and b) is embeddable as . For a user to show ones-own uploaded images on a user pages, a form like Special:NewFiles/TheUsername would be desirable.

This enhancement proposal to create an embeddable and user-filtered version of "Special:NewFiles/TheUsername". I believe the patch provided in bug also 3341 provided this functionality (but the bug request was only "optionally also a gallery", so the bug is probably validly closed).

Note embedding works fine on trunk (I think it was fixed on 1.18). (however that's not your feature request).

It looks like from a quick look at the source that adding a filter by user parameter to special:newfiles would be fairly straight forward...

I'd rather merge it with Special:ListFiles
Comment 3 Gregor Hagedorn 2011-08-24 06:21:46 UTC
"I'd rather merge it with Special:ListFiles": I second that. Sorting newest first, filter by user, embeddable are all already done.

That means, all that ListFiles would need is an option to display in gallery style versus technical tabular style.
Comment 4 Gregor Hagedorn 2011-08-24 06:25:04 UTC
Note: this enhancement is about improving user participation, satisfaction and reward :-) Having the embeddable technology, it can be included in templates, perhaps even in welcoming templates, all of which is up to the project community to decide.

A merge would also make sense to me (would that mean merging this bug into Bug 30522?). "Special:NewFiles/TheUsername" could be retained as an alias for backwards compatibility, redirecting to "Special:ListFiles/TheUsername?newestfilesfirst=yes&display=gallery" or however the "newest files first" and gallery display options might work.
Comment 6 Gregor Hagedorn 2011-08-24 21:17:24 UTC
"would that mean merging this bug into Bug 30522?": Partly, it merges enhancement request 1 and 2, but not the long list of desirables in point 3 of Bug 30522. I recommend splitting them out, focussing on adding the gallery view in a first step. All other request are useful, but have an expert use case rather than user motivation.
Comment 7 Krinkle 2011-08-28 22:32:27 UTC
Since SpecialListFiles is already embeddable, perhaps drop this bug for SpecialNewFiles and instead go add this functionality to SpecialListFiles (functionality being 'showing files by all users' and 'descending sorting').
Comment 8 Gregor Hagedorn 2011-08-28 23:04:46 UTC
OK. Dropping this bug in favor of Bug 30608.
