Created attachment 8212 [details]
The IP-adres is not visible in the red marked areas.

Look at :

http://www.mediawiki.org/w/index.php?title=Project:Support_desk&offset=20110225115614#help_2467

The username/ip-adres is not visible

Source code shows an empty element:

<div class="lqt-thread-signature">
<span class="lqt-thread-user-signature"></span>
<span class="lqt-thread-toolbar-timestamp">09:31, 19 February 2011</span></div>

Krinkle: I checked the page you linked, and don't see a thread where there is no IP address. If you have time, could you please update to a recent supported version (see http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Version_lifecycle ) and tell us if this problem still happens?
If this still happens, please add a comment to this report and tell us either your exact software version in case that you know (by updating the "Version" field of this bug report), or on which wiki the problem can be seen. You can find out about your version by going to the Special:Version page, such as https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Special:Version.

If the problem does not happen anymore at all, please set the status of this report to RESOLVED > WORKSFORME. Thanks a lot for your help!

There is two ways to get to it:

On the stand-alone thread page:

https://www.mediawiki.org/w/index.php?title=Thread:Project:Support_desk/help

And via the overview with a certain offset:

https://www.mediawiki.org/w/index.php?title=Project:Support_desk&dir=prev&offset=20110225102033&limit=20#help_2467

(though this latter link can get outdated as the offset refers to the time the thread was last updated, not when it was created, so it it shifting).

The screenshot attached is stil accurate for these two links.
Comment 4 Jesús Martínez Novo (Ciencia Al Poder) 2013-02-16 15:12:20 UTC
The signature is editable, even for anons, both when creating/adding a new message and when editing an existing message.

Maybe the IP intentionally edited the signature to leave it blank, and it seems a legit way to reproduce this.
Comment 5 Alex Monk 2013-02-19 02:57:08 UTC
The user editing the signature to be blank does seem to be a valid reason this would happen, so I don't think this is a valid bug.
Comment 6 Krinkle 2013-02-19 06:57:49 UTC
It's hard to tell. The history does show 1 edit, but the diff functionality is still broken in LQT, and even if it worked, it doesn't include the signature.

https://www.mediawiki.org/w/index.php?title=Thread:Project:Support_desk/help&lqt_method=thread_history

He did leave 2 replies that weren't edited, so he must've removed it at creation time?

Will keep it closed for now until I find another occurrence.

That's Bug 24970 :)
