Description Chad H. 2011-02-23 03:27:16 UTC
I need to make at least a quick pass on authoring some new upgrade/install documents that apply to 1.17 and above.

If anyone wants to volunteer before I get to it, feel free :D
Comment 1 Chad H. 2011-05-16 14:20:29 UTC
The docs in subversion (INSTALL, UPGRADE, etc) have all been fixed.

mw.org still needs an overhaul, but that's nothing new :p
Comment 2 Mark A. Hershberger 2011-07-21 21:52:38 UTC
Sumana, do you think you could help find someone to help on this? Chad doesn't have time time now.
Comment 3 Quim Gil 2012-11-28 07:32:08 UTC
What is this report about? Still relevant?

With the current description it is impossible to help, or even figure out whether this is still an issue.
Comment 4 Andre Klapper 2012-11-28 08:38:43 UTC
Chad: Does this report refer to http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Upgrading and http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Installing_MediaWiki ?
Comment 5 Chad H. 2012-11-28 11:56:04 UTC
Yes, those pages plus the per-platform pages, which are all listed under http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Installation_guide#System-specific_instructions

The problem is: the install/upgrade docs were never updated after the new installer was written. That, and the docs were ancient and scattered anyway (most of the stuff on the platform-specific pages is just forks of the primary install doc and not actually platform-specific at all).
Comment 6 Quim Gil 2013-11-19 15:28:54 UTC
Would this be a good task for Google Code-in?
Comment 7 Andre Klapper 2014-11-05 15:04:47 UTC
Would anybody be willing to be a mentor for this documentation task for Google Code-in? If yes, could you add it to
https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Google_Code-in_2014#Proposed_tasks until
Sunday (we can still improve the description until December 1st)?
If time is spare I can also do that - I just need a statement who
would mentor it.

See https://lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/wikitech-l/2014-October/079264.html for more information. Don't hesitate to ask if you have questions!
