After upgrading to MediaWiki 1.17 this morning at meta, Extension:NewUserWelcome started failing (see URL).

I blocked the user using the extension hoping that it would stop the extension till we could investigate the issue but surprisingly it didn't. I've also globally locked the account, but the extension continued working.

Due to this, the extension which is currently broken due to the upgrading to MW 1.17 continues to create new user talk pages with nonsense.

So please, to avoid this in the future, please make that blocking prevents the extension from working to avoid this kind of issues.
