Description Brion Vibber 2011-01-31 17:40:12 UTC
There's surprisingly little documentation about WikiEditor and how to customize the toolbar on mediawiki.org; the extension page at http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:WikiEditor is extremely bare, and there's no obvious docs I could find explaining how to extend it in the extension's README or in code headers, other than a general mention that you can make a certain call.... but no information on what to pass to make specific things happen.

Krinkle shared a sample helper script: http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Krinkle/Scripts/insertVectorButtons.js

And apparently there's more information hiding on the old Usability Initiative project wiki:
* http://usability.wikimedia.org/wiki/Toolbar_customization
* http://usability.wikimedia.org/wiki/Toolbar_customization/Library

These and any other existing docs should be bundled up and moved to mediawiki.org, and tied in with other documentation on UI customization and extensibility options for extensions and gadgets.

Sidenote: the usability wiki is available as a transwiki import source on mediawiki.org, so it's possible to import pages with full history through [[:mw:Special:Import]].

Seems fixed, although I doubt WikiEditor documentation can be called good.
