Description J. Lunau 2011-01-21 10:52:47 UTC
file (photo) in artikle http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anthony_Rowley is only displayed to logged in users.

If article is requested by a non registered user, no photo is shown.

This problem is, no matter if I use
[[Datei:Dr. Rowley.jpg|miniatur|hochkant|Dr. Anthony Rowley (2010)]]
or
[[File:Dr. Rowley.jpg|thumb|upright|Dr. Rowley]]

I have no idea, what's wrong, because this problem occures only in
http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anthony_Rowley

The 170px thumb is corrupt and I can't get it to regenerate.

The reason that logged in users do see the image is because the image is thumbnailed without size parameter. For logged-in users this will get the thumb size from the user preferences, which may be different from the anonymous size.

Regenerated thumb via thumb.php.

now it works fine!

It's a bit of a hack, but for the next time, you can usually force a rerender of files by going to http://de.wikipedia.org/w/thumb.php?f=<FILENAME>&w=<WIDTH> where you replace <FILENAME> with the filename, without the File: prefix, and <WIDTH> with the width in pixels. You can find the width by clicking with the right mouse on the non rendering file and choosing "Grafik anzeigen" (in Firefox). In the url you will find something like /170px-. In that case 170 is the width you need.

Thanks for the workaround, but it seems I do not understand.

No matter, which thumb I try forcing rerender, all time I get only the Error:
Error generating thumbnail
The source file for the specified thumbnail does not exist.

For example I tried for <FILENAME> Dr._Rowley.jpg
and for <WIDTH> 170:

http://de.wikipedia.org/w/thumb.php?f=Dr._Rowley.jpg&w=170

Server only gives me a error message. Maybe you can tell me, what I am doing wrong?
Comment 6 Bryan Tong Minh 2011-01-22 13:51:39 UTC
My mistake, it should be done on commons, so http://commons.wikimedia.org/w/thumb.php?f=Dr._Rowley.jpg&w=170
