What do you mean with "previous name" and "old name" ?

Your screenshot looks fine ?. You changed the signature setting, wrote ~~~~, and it appeared.
You reset the signature, wrotte ~~~~, and the default appeared.

Where is the issue ?

Please pay attention when you click "Edit" during your second attempt.
It no longer says "~~~~" it has been expanded to what you put in your preferences.

It cant change.

What you can do is put in your user preference.

Then create User:TestN/signature2 with .
And create User:TestN/signature with whatever you want your signature to be.

That way ~~~ doesn't put "User:TestN" on the page but a template ().
And as you may know, templates can be centrally changed.

if you want signatures to be dynamic. You will have to use an extension such as LQT[0]
