PHP 5.2.10 (apache2handler)
MySQL 5.0.77
Semantic MediaWiki Version 1.5.1_1)
Semantic Forms Version 1.9.1_1)

I did reproduce this problem in the sandbox site at http://sandbox.semantic-mediawiki.org/wiki/Special:Ask

Issue: When I write a query like {{#ask: [[Category:Attribute]]}}, the results include pages that include the category, but they DON'T include subcategories of that category.

$smwgUseCategoryHierarchy and $smwgCategoriesAsInstances are both set to true but it still does not include subcategories.

Neurolex -- http://www.neurolex.org -- uses Semantic MediaWiki 1.4.3 and I've I've noticed that they do not have this same problem. See this page http://neurolex.org/wiki/Vertebrate_Neuron_overview for an example.

I've seen this issue raised on your forums but no one has responded. http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/message.php?msg_id=25987229

Has been tested with SMW 1.8 and queries with categories do include their respective subcategories.
