Description Woojin Kim 2010-08-16 13:41:37 UTC
While switching default skin, Wikipedia logos are also switched. Now, logos are hosted in Commons, while several projects had an autonomy to their project logo before the switch, by updating wiki.png et cetera.

There are times a projects need to change on special events such as exceeding 100,000 articles. Commons admin should change logo if there is consensus to change the project logo. But it can be inappropriate to use changed logo to describe Wikipedia in normal articles. It is a dillema. And it can be a new kind of workload for Commons administrator, which should be done by local sysops.

Though there is a way to change their logo using CSS hack, it is undesirable for short term changes. Because CSS cache file can preserve older than the duration of changes.

Many Wikipedias used to have the autonomy, so I think there would be no problem to host logo file in local wiki after v2 logo files are uploaded at each wikis.

Best regards.

This should be fixed a week or two after the remainder of the Wikipedia projects are switched over to Vector. Until that point, this bug is marked "RESOLVED-LATER"
