Cool - I'll tackle this fun feature request :)

Added in r103599.

This seems to work okay, but if I select "default license type" as "own work" or "third party" then the other option disappears when I'm actually uploading something. We don't want to stop people from being able to switch to the other license.

Also, the option for "The license is described by the following wikitext (must contain a valid copyright tag):" doesn't make sense unless you are going to put a textarea into the preferences interface as well. So either eliminate that or figure out a way for it to refer to another preference field where they enter their custom license.

Finally, if this is not to much work, arguably I don't think we should have three separate preferences here. Just once preference would be great -- i.e. in the preferences, you get to pick:

( ) own work - Creative Commons Attribution ShareAlike 3.0 (legal code)
( ) own work - Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 (legal code)
( ) own work - Creative Commons CC0 Waiver (release all rights, like public domain: legal code)
( ) someone else's work - Creative Commons Attribution ShareAlike 3.0 (legal code)
( ) ...
( ) someone else's work - Original work of NASA

> the other option disappears

Right, this was what we wanted for WLM but does not here - I guess I'll have to introduce a new option then.

I agree with both other points as well and will try to take car of them today.

r105436 ought to do the trick :)
Comment 7 Neil Kandalgaonkar 2011-12-07 21:50:53 UTC
Seems to work now

"The license is described by the following wikitext (must
contain a valid copyright tag):"
- would be nice to have it in the prefs esp. regarding to the title of the bug. Preferred license can be something else, like {{self|cc-by-sa|FAL|GFDL}}
- Anyway, thanks for this option. Great! I see a light on the end of the tunnel.
