Description Purodha Blissenbach 2010-07-29 10:14:33 UTC
When editing with the Vector skin and opening the "special characters" box
from the top menu, you get a pretty wide selection list (at the left in
an ltr environment) and a pretty large edit pane.

Specially with IPA symbols, the character box needs scrolling so as to find
the symbols you need. Because you usually enter a series of them, you srcoll
a lot, while both the selection list and the edit pane are of no or little
interest, as long as you see what you are just putting into the edit pane.

Thus I suggest to allow users to drag the left (in ltr) edge of the character
box, which is the right (in ltr) edge of the selection list horizontally,
until either the character box, or the slection list, is only one character
wide.

Likewise, I suggest to allow users to drag the lower edge of the combo
box comprising the selection list and the character box vertically,
until either the edit pane or the combo box has been shrunk to one line
high.

Also worth thinking over would be, imho, to automatically close the
selection list, once a selection has been made. This requires a click
more, each time when you have to enter another character or symbol of
another script, but I believe these occasions are rare.

Another option would be to automatically shrink the selection list to
its minimum, when the character box is opened, in addition to each
type of dragging, asked for above.

Thank you.

This is now the "WikiEditor" extension and has nothing to do with Vector in particular.
