Description Church of emacs 2010-07-15 20:07:26 UTC
At the last meetup in Munich, there was a great support for having a mailing list for bavarian Wikimedia meetups.

Perhaps, in order to allow other states use a similar schema, don't name it "bavaria" (or "bayern"), but "meet-de-by" or "meetup-de-by", according to ISO 3166-2 and [[ISO 3166-2:DE]].

Note that the munich meetup was not only the first Wikipedia meetup world-wide (!), but also the first place where Jimbo met other Wikipedians in real life. So yeah, our meetup is of a Wikhistoric value and deserves a mailing list ;)

just because Jimbo turned up is hardly a good reason, Do you guys not have more localized one for the project in your language?

He was just teasing -- that's really not the only reason for a list.

I don't see what's wrong with creating this list if they say they're going to use it... we have lots of similar lists, like Wikimedia-SF, WikimediaPA-l, Wikimedia_NYC (pretty sure that was there before there was a chapter, but not sure), Wikimedia-DC. It might be better to name it Wikimedia-DE-BY or something instead, though, to fit in with the naming scheme.

Of course I was just teasing ;)

Yes, Wikipedia-DE-BY would be an even better name.
There actually was a Munich Wikipedia mailing list by Wikimedia Deutschland, but it got deleted (by accident) some time ago. It was quite active and I'm sure the new Mailing list will get some traffic as well.

Wouldn't "WikimediaDE-BY be more appropriate?

It would probably make more sense to have another hyphen (Wikimedia-DE-BY, like Wikimedia-SF), but I think they'd be more than happy with that.

Either is fine. :)
