Description Derk-Jan Hartman 2010-06-11 01:14:40 UTC
The Wikipedia layer of Google maps still notes that articles are licensed GFDL in their Wikipedia popups.

As a reminder, this is still appearing in the popup when you click the [W] icons :

Good news. The change is now being localized and will be deployed after.

Great Tomasz thanks!
Comment 7 Dereckson 2012-06-05 21:23:31 UTC
Is Google still using Wikipedia data?

http://www.google.com/intl/en_ALL/help/legalnotices_maps.html doesn't contain any notice about Wikipedia or WMF.
Comment 8 Antoine "hashar" Musso (WMF) 2012-06-11 08:21:10 UTC
I did the following check:

 maps.google.com
 Looked for "Nantes, France"
Choose the "Wikipedia" overlay (top right drop down list)
Clicked on one of the W icon

A popup show up with a short abstract of the article. The footer read:

All text is available under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License

Then there is a link to http://www.wikipedia.org/ together with a logo ( https://maps.gstatic.com/intl/en_ALL/mapfiles/iw_wikipedia.png ).

The original issue has thus been solved by Google.
