You're going to have to be more specific as to what the problem is.

I am using IE 6 as my browser, and attach a javascript error detection code in my common.js. The function code found that there is a error named "Wrong character"(or something else, I'm chinese and using a chinese browser so I canott give out the exact translation), located in line 2 of every page.

I am sure that there's no problem of my common.js and the error should not be raised by my code.

And I just met the similar problem(meaing JavaScript error) before, so you guys need be careful when editing the javascript code.

Thanks for your reading and I am looking for your reply.

and I'm very confused to use the system as a web programmer with few years experience. Is there any intruction on the system and can it be more user-friendly?

So far, we know there's a problem in JavaScript, that may be related to a
somewhat unrecognized character.

What we would need is :
- on which wiki did this occur ? You filed the bug under "Wikimedia wikis", but
mention "your common.js"
- which version of Mediawiki does it run ?
- are there any extensions installed, and if so, which ones ?
- are there any gadgets installed, and if so, which ones ?
- what file triggers the error ? The line number is really not enough.
- what character triggers the error ? This may have some importance too.

Any further information you can think of, in addition to the ones listed above,
may prove useful. Keep in mind many people use IE6 on MediaWiki and haven't
filed that bug : this could mean you've modified some file in an unusual way.

Please reopen this bug as soon as you can provide the requested information.

Sorry that I missed the detail listed above.
I found the problem in zh wikiepdia project, with the settings below:
fast preview: rollover the link to preview an article.
common.js
show hidden chinese buttons(no conversion, trad., simp.)

No any other global feature were set.
-------------------------------------------------------

I can tell you that by now the error was fixed just 10 minutes ago, so the problem was resolved.

Sorry for my rude speech but I can't stand the bug report system maybe it's my first time to use it. I hope the relevant people will do some improvement on this bug report system.(Problems met when I post the bug: Component field doesn't include script issue or any similiar item, no field for projects of the problem happning; no browsers report field[Maybe collect automatically by the system]; posting new bug with keywords not incluing the list by this system leads bug data losing, so I have to post it again and a blank bug report was made)

Thanks for your help again anyway.
