I would like to have the local name of a language added to the sitematrix. e.g. if you are viewing Special:Sitermatrix?uselang=en Аҧсуа (Abkhaz) ab ab ab ab ab ab ab Acèh (Acehnese) ace ace ace ace ace ace ace e.g. if you are viewing Special:Sitermatrix?uselang=de Аҧсуа (Abchasisch) ab ab ab ab ab ab ab Acèh (Achinesisch) ace ace ace ace ace ace ace As site effect, having messages with all wiki language names translated to the local language could be reused in many other cases, too.
A possible solution would be the usage of the CLDR extension which provides localised language names. Some more tweaks/hooks are needed but should be doable.
SiteMatrix already uses cldr data if available. Should this blug be assigned to wmf staff and request cldr extension to be enabled?
Created attachment 7255 [details] SiteMatrix patch to display language names in local language.
I verified this with the attached patch and the cldr enabled. (http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:CLDR) Tim, you see a problem with enabling cldr?

r85600 CLDR extension is reviewed (and fixed up to that extent), so commiting so this can go live at some later date
*** Bug 31043 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
CLDR is live, so this should be deployed.
(In reply to comment #8) > CLDR is live, so this should be deployed. It's not been merged into 1.17wmf1 Per Robin on bug 31043 if you use http://test2.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:SiteMatrix?uselang=nl it works So within the next 2-3 weeks it should be live across the site
