I tried to install mediawiki (1.5.alpha1 cvs) with a mysql database at localhost, but the installation script only says: "Couldn't connect to database" (The database is working, other scripts can be installed). '' The error message is: Trying to connect to MySQL on localhost as root... Warning: Undefined property: mConn in /var/www/u135/html/18plus/wiki/includes/Database.php on line 256 Warning: Supplied argument is not a valid MySQL-Link resource in /var/www/u135/html/18plus/wiki/config/index.php on line 454 * MySQL error : '' MySQL version is: MySQL 4.0.24_Debian-4woody1-log PHP version: PHP 4.1.2: ok
Can you upgrade PHP? While this may not be the direct cause, the README files from MediaWiki 1.4.4 and 1.5alpha1 state: > The code is written in PHP. Version 4.3.2 or higher is recommended. There are > known issues with early 4.2.x releases.
I cannot upgrade PHP, it is not my server, only webspace...
Bug 944 reported the same error in Database.close(), also with PHP v4.1.2. The webspace provider has the latest release for MySQL 4.0 (March 2005), but old PHP software (March 2002). *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 944 ***
If you're paying for the webspace, then you are entitled to ask for the more recent (and more secure) versions of things like PHP, mySQL and Apache, etc. so try contacting the provider.
