It would be nice to customize each namespace e.g. so that each can have its own $wgNavigationLinks.

This would make it possible to maintain several projects in the same Wiki

since I was writing about an old version, here my idea for 1.5:

Each Namespace *can* have its own 'MediaWiki'-Namespace to override 'global' settings, so that a namespace 
there can have an individual sidebar.
