Using http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Search , I get unexpected results when the search includes the upper-case word AND. Here are some searches and their results: Expected results ---------------- 1949 0 results: bug 42 born 92,326 results: ok BORN 92,326 results: bug 1099 1949 born 92,326 results: bug 42 & bug 1099 and 674,190 results: ok and born 679,813 results: bug 1099 1949 and born 679,813 results: bug 42 & bug 1099 Unexpected results ------------------ AND search is temporarily unavailable: expected 679,813 results AND born search is temporarily unavailable: expected 679,813 results 1949 AND born 90 search results: expected 679,813 results
See also bug 2091, where http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Search?search=%22the+the%22&fulltext=Search was also resulting in "search disabled" for a while.
Also: or 319,082 results OR search disabled: expected at least 319,082 results OR born search disabled: expected at least 319,082 results 1949 OR born 92,326 results: expected at least 319,082 results
Here's another couple of search quirks (which may be related): & Sorry, there were no exact matches to your query && "search is disabled" & (using Go from the left navigation panel) redirects to [[Ampersand]]
'and' and 'or' are just words, they have no special significance for searching.
(In reply to comment #4) > 'and' and 'or' are just words, they have no special significance for searching. Isn't that why the "unexpected results" should not have happened?
