Description SJ 2009-09-15 04:50:40 UTC
When currently adding an image to commons, the dropdown options for the image source are missing some obvious options. As Timwi noted in a recent email:

> Unfortunately the Upload page only provides the options:
>
> * made by someone else for use on Wikipedia only
> * made by someone else for non-commercial use only
>
> and both of these options lead to a speedy-deletion warning. The most
> OBVIOUS options are missing:
>
< * made by someone else and licensed as (whatever free/open licence)
> * made by someone else and placed in the public domain

(aside: There should be a separate Component related to how media are uploaded -- there are so many pieces related to this, specifically to how it is used on wikimedia sites, that need fixing! From the need for a better submission process to the need for a better way to identify that an article needs an image, and insert one directly into a point in the article.)

Why is this reported to Bugzilla? Problems on specific projects should be reported to those projects, don’t you think? (In this case, e.g. [[commons:Village pump]].)

And, anyway: I see the following licensing option in the drop-down on Commons:

Not self-made, but has been released under:
    * Creative Commons licenses
          o cc-by-sa-3.0|Attribution ShareAlike 3.0
          o cc-by-sa-2.5|Attribution ShareAlike 2.5
          o cc-by-3.0|Attribution 3.0
          o cc-by-2.5|Attribution 2.5
    * Free Art License
          o FAL|Free Art License
    * Flickr photos
          o subst:template 2|flickrreview|subst:nld|Image from Flickr and I do not know the license
          o subst:template 2|cc-by-sa-2.0|flickrreview|Uploaded to Flickr under Creative Commons Attribution ShareAlike 2.0
          o subst:template 2|cc-by-2.0|flickrreview|Uploaded to Flickr under Creative Commons Attribution 2.0

(See http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/MediaWiki:Licenses or http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:Upload?uselang=en)

There is no “made by someone else for use on Wikipedia only” on any of our projects whatsoever, AFAICT [http://www.google.com/search?q="made+by+someone+else+for+use+on+wikipedia+only"]. Maybe you could be a bit more specific…?

Yup, Bugzilla is for bugs in the software, not in local customizations.
