It would be nice if we could remove/hide the "discussion" tab.
On which wiki? You could do that by CSS. But please don't do that on a Wikimedia project.
(In reply to comment #0) You can hide the tab using CSS customisations to the MediaWiki skins, although the discussion namespaces are somewhat embedded into the software, so this would not prevent it; just obscure it. Why do you want to remove it? I have a suspicion that a wiki engine is not the appropriate piece of software for your needs.
> Why do you want to remove it? It adds complication and encourages people to use the discussion page because they are afraid of editing the main page. I am happy for discussion to happen on the main page.
This is for www.glom.org, by the way - a small project site.
May I urge that this bug be reopened not so much for MW projects, but for the "rest of us" who want to direct users to conduct 'discussions' in say, a Comment namespace such as SMWHalo provides with its Collaboration extension. I was warmer to LQT which is talkspace based, but I'm feeling uncertain about the stability of that extension these days. Essentially the thought is that few wikis need a talkspace for each and every subjectspace. And perhaps even fewer need those empty talkspaces listed in AllPages or in advanced search - really confuses the users that I speak to. I'd prefer not to hack the MW base software, but I can't find any way to 'drop' talk namespaces for MW namespaces. I want to keep two of them - User Talk and Talk - so the thought of using CSS doesnt work for me. Thanks for all your great work.
Talk pages are a core function of MediaWiki. We are not going to remove them.
