for some godly annoying reason, the XiphQT plugins for QuickTime don't register their mimetypes, and thus "native" playback is not possible on Mac OS X atm.
Apparently this is an issue with QuickTime and MIME registrations. http://wiki.xiph.org/XiphQT "Load QuickTime Player, then navigate menus QuickTime Player -> QuickTime Preferences -> Advanced -> MIME Settings .... open the Audio group, uncheck the two Ogg entries, then press OK. Then reopen MIME Settings ..., recheck the two Ogg entries, press OK again. I found that I needed to toggle them like this in order to get the correct config stored."
Michael, should this be unassigned from you now that OggHandler was replaced by TimedMediaHandler?
It seems that embedded player support for Safari was fully dropped since then, so we can close this as wontfix.
