Another misleading point (mainly for admins) migth be to delete only one of the pages. Non-existing "talk" pages for a specific subjectpage are red links for me on http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Special:EditWatchlist with 1.21wmf7, also for pages with a specific prefix. Hence closing as FIXED - if this does not work for you please clarify the problem. Thanks!
