Currently, if a user on the en Wikipedia attempts to go to a nonexistant special page, they get an error page reading " You have requested a special page that is not recognized by Wikipedia. Return to Main Page. " I think it would be more natural to offer to take them to a list of all valid special pages. I know that there's a "Special Pages" link in the lefthand toolbox, but they're going to be looking at the Error page, and that's the natural place to put a link. I'd imagine something like " You have requested a special page that is not recognized by Wikipedia. You may go to a List of all valid Special Pages, or Return to the Main Page.
Have some admin edit http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MediaWiki:Nospecialpagetext to solve the problem for en Wikipedia. I agree that the default text of the message should also be changed, therefore leaving this bug as enhancement request.
This has been fixed by en:User:Rdsmith4 and this can be closed.
I'd like to reopen this. The page was fixed on the English Wikipedia, but I think that these changes should be made to the default text as well. The new version is more helpful to users.
Changed it to "You have requested an invalid special page, a list of valid special pages may be found at :Specialpages." in HEAD.
