Description Mike Peel 2009-07-07 18:49:35 UTC
The error 404 page on the Wikimedia UK wiki says "A project of the Wikimedia foundation." at the bottom of it, e.g. see http://uk.wikimedia.org/Main_Page . Could this be removed? It's not appropriate for the UK chapter wiki, which doesn't really count as a project of the WMF. Thanks in advance.
Comment 1 Brion Vibber 2009-07-13 17:34:58 UTC
It's running on Wikimedia Foundation servers, so sounds pretty accurate to me. :)

Note bug 17316 recommending a nice redo of the 404 page entirely as well. Existing language is pretty crappy and will go away soonish...
Comment 2 Mike Peel 2009-07-13 21:14:47 UTC
Brion, the next step from that is saying "Wikimedia UK is a project of the Wikimedia Foundation", which is completely and utterly wrong, and could lead to some very unfortunate misunderstandings.

Is there an eta on bug 17316? I note that it still won't solve this issue.
Comment 3 Thomas "Tango" Dalton 2009-07-21 01:20:59 UTC
It is a *site* *hosted* by the WMF. The *project* is WMUK, not a website, and is independent of the foundation. Check with Mike Godwin, he is usually quite keen to emphasise the independence (and, importantly, the perception of independence) of chapters.
Comment 4 Brion Vibber 2009-08-06 20:52:21 UTC
Updating URL example to something that actually shows a 404 error. Deassigning from Rob as this isn't ready to implement, but apparently has general questions about what, if anything, is required.
Comment 5 Brion Vibber 2009-08-06 20:55:14 UTC
Marking blocking on bug 17316 404 page redo (eg keep in mind generalizing the new 404 page text)
Comment 7 This, that and the other (TTO) 2013-12-25 11:26:19 UTC
Kind of a moot point now that WMUK has moved to its own hosting.

I'm closing this as a WONTFIX, but naturally, anyone may reopen it if needed
