After pasting a post to the talk page some of the usernames became altered and caused red-linking.  These were deliberately caused by me but did occur during my post.  I am at complete loss why this could have happened.

Can almost guarantee this is not something caused by MediaWiki, you've got a lot of heavy user scripts (not counting what you might have in prefs), I'd investigate those: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Billreid/monobook.js

If you can reproduce corruption with JS disabled (or in a section you didn't actually edit), then reopen.
