Screen shot of the error

When I tried to run the upgrade script I got, after an alert the script tried to increase memory_limit to above the allowed limit, something about REMOTE_ADDR not being set, and an unexpected REMOTE_USER authentication failure, an SQL error 1071 when creating the table fedtrek_wiki_spoofuser. Attached is a screen shot of the error. If it helps, the server the wiki is on runs CentOS 5, MySQL 5.1.35, and PHP 5.2.9 with Suhosin-patch 0.9.7, APD 1.0.1, XDebug 2.0.4, and Sushosin 0.9.27.

Updated summary per screenshot. When the charset is UTF-8, the su_normalized index is 255*3*2 = 1530 bytes, exceeding the common 1000 byte limit.
