Creating a new username that is not capitalized doesn't work on the French Wiktionary. Instead MediaWiki tells there was no username entered. It worked fine on the English Wiktionary (which doesn't distinguish Capitalized and non-capitalized words AFAIK).
It was possible on the Hindi Wiktionary: http://hi.wiktionary.org/w/index.php?title=%E0%A4%B5%E0%A4%BF%E0%A4%B6%E0%A5%87%E0%A4%B7:Contributions&target=yann
It's not possible to create lowercase usernames because usernames need to be consistent for future single sign-on support.
Then there should either be an appropriate warning or automatic capitalization of the username. MediaWiki shouldn't just say that there was no username entered. Like this it confuses the shit out of people.
bug 1574: Account cannot be created with initial lower case letter and this bug (bug 1818: Creating a new username that is not capitalized doesn't work) seems duplicates
