Description Subfader 2009-03-03 18:43:31 UTC
When you move a normal page you have "Move associated talk page" autoticked.
When you move a talk page you have no option to auto move the associated normal page.

Moving talk pages happens often by accident when you actually wanted to move the normal page. After the move you have to think twice what happened now. Going back to to fix it is hard and even almost impossible for unexperienced users.

Also can't think of a "normal" situation wheny ou want to move a talk page without the associated normal page.

So please add an autoticked checkbox for "Move belonging <ns page> as well". Untick if you really want to move the talk page only.

Or unswitch it and auto move the associated normal page and make an unticked checkbox for "Only move the talk page".

I've changed the summary since I think the request here is simply to change the mentioned checkbox to apply to the "other" page regardless of whether that "other" page is the talk page (ie you're moving the content page) or the content page (if you're moving the talk page).

This is a method of archiving talk pages which keeps the history intact. I don't particularly like it, but it is commonly used.

Ok but the point is atm when you move a talk page there is NO checkbox at all for the associated page.
Both should be ticked by default since moving the talk page only is rarely the case.

More often it happens that you're viewing a talk page and then click move cos you assume it's the normal page. At least on my wiki ;)

Yes, that's why I clarified the summary - that's what the request is all about.
